Why I Love Greece
There’s an old Greek saying that goes: “If you don’t praise your own house it will fall on you.”
Not that this particular house is in danger of collapsing, but there is a certain truth to the proverb.
Yet when it is foreigners who praise this house, including those who live for long or short periods amongst us, and when that praise is often more fulsome than that of the Greeks themselves, then we have a right to be more than ordinarily proud.
It is in this spirit that this volume, Why I Love Greece, has been put together. In its pages fifteen of the top foreign correspondents living and working in Greece reveal in their various ways why they have come to love Greece, and which particular part of Greece has made an inordinate impression on each. There is also a special photographic section featuring news photos of international celebrities who have visited Greece in the past.
We thank these foreign correspondents for their cooperation and their sentiments. And we urge them to keep on considering Greece their home, even if only on a holiday basis, and to take more time off to enjoy Greece’s charms.
